Your privacy is paramount. We utilize your browser's HTML5 localStorage technology to automatically save your work as you type. A copy of your notes is stored securely only on your own device within the browser. Your private notes never leave your computer and are never sent to any server.

Notes are typically saved very frequently. Your saved notes remain accessible in your browser unless you specifically clear the website data (cache, cookies, local storage) for this site.

Feel free to test it: type something, close the tab, and reopen it – your notes should reappear just as you left them!

Using Autosave & Manual Save

Autosave (Default):

• Your notes are automatically saved to your browser's local storage roughly every second as you type.
• This protects against accidentally closing tabs or browser crashes.
• Your notes remain stored only on your device unless you clear browser data.

Manual Save (Ctrl+S / Cmd+S):

• Pressing `Ctrl+S` (or `Cmd+S` on Mac) or clicking the Save icon (in the File menu) forces an immediate save.
• This confirms the latest version is stored. Good practice before switching notes or closing the window.

Exporting & Backing Up:

• To save a single note to your computer, use the 'File' > 'Export as TXT' menu option.
• To back up *all* notes, use the Backup button in the sidebar (offers JSON or TXT).

Managing Multiple Notes & Pins

The sidebar on the left helps you organize your notes:

• Creating Notes: Click the "+ Create new" button at the top of the sidebar or use the 'File' > 'New Note' menu (`Ctrl+N`).
• Switching Notes: Simply click on any note title in the sidebar list to load it into the editor. The active note is highlighted.
• Searching Notes: Type keywords into the search bar in the sidebar to instantly filter your notes list by title or content.
• Pinning Notes: Click the thumbtack icon next to a note title in the sidebar. Pinned notes always stay at the top of the list for easy access. Click again to unpin.
• Deleting Notes: Click the trash icon next to a note title in the sidebar. You'll be asked to confirm before the note is permanently deleted.
• Sidebar Views: Use the 'Compact' / 'Detailed' toggle buttons to change how much information is shown for each note.

Formatting Text, Links & Code

Use the toolbar buttons above the editor or keyboard shortcuts:

• Bold: Select text and click or press `Ctrl+B` / `Cmd+B`.
• Italic: Select text and click or press `Ctrl+I` / `Cmd+I`.
• Underline: Select text and click or press `Ctrl+U` / `Cmd+U`.
• Link: Select text, click , and enter the URL. Or just click the button to insert a link.
• Inline Code: Select text and click to format it as `inline code`.
• Code Block: Click to turn the current paragraph into a preformatted code block.

The active formatting of the text under your cursor is usually reflected by highlighted buttons on the toolbar.

Using Font, Size & Alignment

Customize the look and layout of your text using the toolbar:

• Font Family: Use the dropdown menu (defaulting to 'Default') to select a new font for your selected text or new text.
• Font Size: Use the dropdown menu (defaulting to 'Small') to change the size of your text.
• Text Alignment: Use the alignment buttons to format your paragraphs:
  • Align Left (Default)
  • Align Center
  • Align Right
  • Justify Text

You can apply these settings to selected text or just start typing with the new style active.

Creating Lists & Checklists

Organize information using three different list types from the toolbar:

• Bulleted List: Click to start a bulleted list. Press Enter for a new bullet.
• Numbered List: Click to start a numbered list. Press Enter for the next number.
• Checklist (To-Do List): Click to create an interactive checklist. You can click the box to toggle items as done.

Press Enter twice or Backspace on an empty list item to exit the list format and return to normal paragraph typing.

Using Voice Input Effectively

How to Use:

• Click the microphone icon on the toolbar (or press `Ctrl+M` / `Cmd+M`).
• Your browser will likely ask for permission to access your microphone the first time. You must grant permission for it to work.
• The icon will pulse red while listening. Start speaking clearly.
• The notepad will transcribe your speech and insert it at your cursor position.
• Click the icon again (or press `Ctrl+M`) to stop listening manually.

Tips for Best Results:

• Speak clearly and at a moderate pace.
• Minimize background noise.
• Say punctuation like "period", "comma", "new paragraph" (support varies by browser).

Compatibility:

• Voice input relies on the Web Speech API built into modern browsers.
• It generally works best in Chrome, Edge, and Safari.
• An active internet connection is usually required for transcription.

Clearing Browser Data (Use with Caution!)

Warning: Following these steps will permanently delete ALL notes you have saved in this Online Notepad. This action cannot be undone. Only proceed if you are sure or have backed up your notes elsewhere.

Why Clear Data?

• Troubleshooting: If the notepad is behaving unexpectedly, clearing its stored data can sometimes resolve issues.
• Privacy: If you are using a shared computer and want to ensure no notes are left behind.

How to Clear Data (General Steps):

• Open your browser's Settings or Preferences.
• Navigate to Privacy & Security > Site Settings or Cookies and Site Data.
• Look for "Manage site data" or "See all cookies and site data".
• Search for this website's domain: onlinenotepad.snapza.xyz
• Select the entry and choose to Remove or Delete its data.
• Reload the Online Notepad page. All your previous notes should be gone.

Again, be absolutely sure before clearing data, as your notes will be lost permanently.
